More guides are to be trained by the Uganda Tourism Board

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is putting emphasis to Human Resource training and development to boost the service delivery quality within the sector. The sector is one of the major country’s foreign exchange earner but still has a limitation in terms of well trained and skilled Human Resource. Since Uganda tourism diversity attracts all types of people from different backgrounds, it is imperative that well trained staff handles the guests for sustainability.

According to the Officials in UTB, having low skilled guides handling the visitors reduces their number because when someone comes here and doesn’t get the best services, he/she goes back and says “I was in Uganda but I didn’t enjoy the Safari”. So eventually, it affects the sector in that people who want to jet into the country with an aim of touring are discouraged and end up going to other countries where they can be treated well.

Trained and well skilled sector staff will give reason to recover the diverted tourists from other neighboring countries. It is on paper that tour operators spend a lot of money on marketing and some of them end up frustrated as they don’t harvest from their efforts. This has even discouraged some of them to the extent that they ended up leaving the business yet it is if handled well profitable. It is this reason that the Uganda Tourism Board has come out to find a way of improving the sector to bring the local people back in business. More guides are going to be trained every year to see that they become more professional while dealing with the tourists. So far, over 100 tour operators have been passed out as guides to minimize the gap in the sector.

Meanwhile, UTB is to commemorate the World tourism day. The cerebrations which will be held in Mbale is expected to be attended by over 1,00 people who will get a chance of knowing what the board is planning to make sure that the sector improves rapidly.

Uganda also known as the pearl of Africa has made its name when it comes to adventure and its one of the leading tourism destination with different attractions. With gorilla tracking acting as the leading attraction in the country, there are other wonderful attractions which a visitor can enjoy while on a safari. Some of the leading activities in Uganda that are enjoyed by visitors include;-Gorilla tracking, chimpanzee trekking, bird watching, cultural tours, nature walks, hiking trips, boat trips, game drives/ wildlife viewing and many more.
