4 Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tracking Safari – Mgahinga Gorilla National park is about 420 square Kilometers and is perhaps the smallest gorilla park with beautiful scenery in Africa. It is the home of the Nyakagezi group and is strategically situated in the extreme corner of the country, forming part of a large conservation area that straddles the boarders of Rwanda and Congo. The distance from Kampala to Mgahinga is 530 km which 8-10 hours. In this 4 Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tracking Safari, you visit Mgahinga national park to track the rare and endangered mountain gorillas. Located in the Virunga Mountains, the park is contiguous with the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Developed Itinerary 4 Day Mgahinga Gorilla Tracking
Day 1: Kampala/ Mgahinga
Leave Kampala and drive south west all the way to Kisoro with en route lunch in Mbarara Town. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery as you sit back and admire the Kigezi highlands, the sloppy terraces of Kisoro, thousands of plantations on the road side, views of the Virunga ranges and various lakes. Mgahinga is part of the Virunga Mountains having 3 major peaks Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo.
Though this is the smallest park in Uganda it is richly endowed with a great photogenic scene, various primate species mainly the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys among others plus over 115 bird species including local forest Albertine species.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking
Mountain Gorillas are normally present in Mgahinga from October – May and the rest of the year in Rwanda. On a day of tracking wake up early and go in search of the mountain gorillas. It will take you about 3 to 5 hours given the small size of the park. You will spend an hour or two with these highly endangered species as you learn a few things about them.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking /Hiking
You will be required to wake up early in the morning then go for golden monkey tracking. Expect to see other primates. You will be required to have fitness and an early start. Go for a least stressing hike on Gahinga which also offers a chance of spotting golden monkeys and forest birds. Or you can hike Muhabura the highest peak in about nine hours. Another option is the Batwa trail – enjoy their cultural dance and drama.

Day 4: Return to Kampala
Have a relaxed breakfast and drive back to Kampala. Have a stop over for lunch in Mbarara on your way. This marks the end of this trip.
