Buganda launches a new Tourism board – Cultural safari News

Buganda heritage and Tourism Board was launched by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owekitiwa Charles Peter Mayiga.  The Heritage and Tourism board will be responsible for protecting, preserving and promoting the heritage of Buganda’s culture. Buganda in Kampala has been referred to as the home of one of the world’s richest cultural sites with numerous wonders including heritage sites, eco-tourism, Galleries, craft shops, bookshops, entertainment points and unique lifestyles.

The government of Buganda has been given three roles towards this heritage system. These include; putting a policy on the management of all tombs within the Buganda region. This will involve confirming people who take care against these tombs. Chaired by Dr. Gladys Nalubowa is all the cultural sites in Buganda incomes collected from tourists will go to Buganda government and towards developing the Kingdom.

The board however has been tasked to establish management policies on running the royal tombs of Buganda. Most emphasis however has been put on e Kasubi and Wamala royal tombs because of their importance as the home of the ancestral fathers.

The board has to administer and promote tourism in Buganda whereby they have to find all the historical places of Buganda protect and preserve them for future. The necessity to establish and implement policies of staffing and transform the Buganda museum and other cultural sites apart from the royal palaces has been seen in this Buganda heritage.

Notably, the Katikiro highlighted much on protecting, preserving and conserving the heritage sites. Nevertheless, he showed concern over the increased deforestation methods that this will lead to desert weather conditions in Uganda. The Katikiro however advised the public that in order to protect our cultural sites we need to protect the wildlife.

Katikkiro reminded the audience about Kabaka’s speech of taking at least two trees at the introduction ceremonies and it will help to protect our environment in future.

Some of the Unique Intangible cultures include, the King and Royal lineage, a distinct language, music, dance and unique dress code.These can easily be enjoyed on a cultural safari to Uganda at any time of the year.
