Lake Mburo National Park extends for only 370 square kilometers in western Uganda and was gazetted in 1983.
Lake Mburo is the smallest savannah National Park but one of the rich biodiversity hotspots in the country with over 68 species of mammals, more than 350 species of birds, and several reptile species occupying the various ecosystems of the Park (Lakes, savannah plains, woodlands, forest and swamps among others).

Detailed Itinerary of the 2 Days Lake Mburo Tour
Day 1: Drive from Kampala City to Lake Mburo National Park.
After breakfast from your place of residence in Kampala, you will be picked up by our experienced driver guide and briefed about your 2 days on Lake Mburo Tour.
Start the journey to the savannah National Park at 7:30 am (or latest 8:00 am) using the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highway.
Your 3-4 hours journey will involve a number of stopovers one of which is the magical Uganda Equator in Kayabwe, Mpigi district.
While here, expect your breath to be taken away by the interesting water experiment-how water drains in varying directions when placed in different hemispheres and also how you are less heavy (lighter) when standing on the Equator.
Continue with the riveting journey traversing through different Towns characterized by lush vegetation, vast banana plantations, and locals going about their daily activities.
On reaching Lyantonde Town, you will branch and use the Nshara gate to enter Lake Mburo, National Park. Have a short game drive and continue to the Safari Lodge where you will have lunch.
After your lunch, you will be driven to the Lakeside where you will find boats waiting and head for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo (the largest Lake in this Park) where you have chances of spotting the Nile crocodiles, Hippos and some impalas as well as buffaloes on the banks.
Also, aquatic bird species will be encountered here. Later head back to the Lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Early morning game drive within the Park and return to Kampala
Morning game drives are best enjoyed if conducted at dawn. Therefore, for this 2 days Lake Mburo tour, you will be required to wake up as early as 6:00 am for breakfast then start the drive at 6:30 am.
This is to give you a chance to spot the nocturnal animals such as leopards and hyenas before they return to their hideouts.
Other animals to sight during game viewing are the Defassa waterbucks, elands, impalas, graceful zebras, towering giraffes, buffaloes, and Topis among others.
After the game drive, return to the Lodge for a quick snack and a few moments of relaxation as you enjoy your last moments at this small but spectacular savannah National Park.
You will have lunch at the Lodge and check out before returning to Kampala and arriving in the evening.
While on your way, you will have a stopover at Mpambire Drum makers to have an insight into how traditional African drums are made and continue straight up to your place of residence.

How to get to Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is found in the western district of Kiruhura, about 240 kilometers/3-4 hours by road west of the Capital (Kampala) and only 30 kilometers also by road east of the Town of Mbarara.
This Park is found near the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highway making it easy to access during your visit to the west or south-western Uganda.
Lake Mburo National Park can be accessed by its two gates-Sanga gates through Sanga Trading Center (about 27 kilometers from Lyantonde) and only 30 minutes’ drive to the Park Headquarters as well as the Nshara gate about 13 kilometers from Lyantonde Town.
If using public transport means, you can board Horizon, Gateway, Posta and Endigito buses from the new Nakivubo Bus Terminal to Sanga or Lyantonde Towns then continue to the Park by Boda Boda (motorcycle) or private taxi.
However, hiring a private 4WD vehicle from tour companies or Car hire companies with a driver inclusive to take you to the Park and the booked accommodation facility.
