Bizenga River
Bizenga River is one of the permanent Rivers located in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This beautiful river is located in the Buhoma region, the Northern gorilla trekking sector of Bwindi. Accessing the Bizenga River is easier on the Munyaga River trail, one of the Buhoma sector’s trails also known for its tranquility.
On a hike through Munyaga River trails to Bizenga River, guests can enjoy the sight of primates, birds, and more. This is about one hour hike and it is best to visit the river during the dry season when there is little/no rain and the ground is drier.
Bizenga river is located in the Buhoma sector, a region near Queen Elizabeth National Park home to the tree-climbing right lions and other wildlife species. This is accessible within 3 hour’s drive from Queen Elizabeth NP.
Buhoma region lies on the Northern side of the lush Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Kanungu district. From Kampala, it is about 540km translating to over 8 hours’ drive and by flight, about 2 hours starting from Entebbe airport to Kihihi airstrip. It is in the Buhoma sector where the first gorilla family was habituated- Mubare and today, this sector has three more gorilla group families including Katwe, Rushegura, and Habinyanja.
Other activities to do while in the Buhoma sector include birding- during bird watching, there are plenty of birds to be encountered. These include cape wagtail, African blue flycatchers, yellow-fronted canary, African green broadbill, Klaas’s cuckoo, red-headed bluebill, white-throated greenbul, pink-footed puff back, blue turacos, etc.
Batwa cultural encounter -this is one of the rewarding experiences that you shouldn’t miss while on a tour in the Buhoma sector. It offers close interaction with the Batwa pygmies in their local communities, and you explore more about their cultures, traditions, and practices.
Nature walking -there are several hiking trails in Buhoma offering the best trekking experiences. These include the Muzubijiro loop, Munyaga river, Rushura, waterfall, River ivy, and more.
