A look through 52 years of Uganda’s Tourism transformation

Last week on Thursday 9th of October, Uganda marked 52years of independence and people from this pearl of Africa were celebrating their freedom. However, the tourism industry also was looking at the various transformations after 52 years on independence and some of the achievements which have been witnessed. To be honest, the success of this sector is positive and everyone can easily see this. This came after numerous developments like improved security, infrastructures and discovery of new tourism and cultural sites. Today, the country hosts the highest number of tourists on a daily basis and this is mainly because of its unique attractions which are hard to find in other countries.

Although Uganda is landlocked, tourism has helped it to close the gap through the increased generation of revenue and this is got from its visitors as they try to tour the different sites. This has helped it to survive economically for 52 years and today, the sector contributes 40% to the country’s GDP.

One of the key unique attractions the country uses as a competitive advantage of other countries is the rare mountain gorillas. Many people from different parts of the world travel to Uganda specifically to look at these elegant primates in their natural habitats. This is the reason why a Uganda safari is completely unique from safaris to other countries. The added value to one’s adventure is a lifetime experience hard to feel when in other countries. The thick rainforests where mountain gorillas live are so thrilling in that when you move through them, you stand a chance of viewing other rare primates, wild animals and birds.

The presence of 10 National Parks makes this East African country one of the most gifted countries when it comes to nature. Each of these has a unique tourism advantage over the other and this is the reason why some visitors try as much as possible to visit atleast 2 parks on their safari so that they can feel the difference in the adventure. While in the parks, one can enjoy a range of activities like game drives, bird watching, nature walks, chimpanzee trekking and many more. Apart from visiting the park, a walk through one of the villages in Uganda enables one to explore more about the rich culture of this East African country.
