Detailed Itinerary: Gorilla And Chimpanzee Tour in Uganda

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park

After your delicious cup of tea or coffee, meet one of our experienced driver guides for briefing and at 8:00am, begin your day drive to Kibale National Park. Your journey will begin from Entebbe/Kampala city and you drive via Mityana, Mubende to Fort Portal tourism city where you will take a break to enjoy lunch. From Fort Portal tourism city, connect to Kibale National Park to check in at the lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking & Nature walk at Bigodi

A delicious breakfast be offered to you at the lodge and after, connect to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for briefing. During the briefing, expect to have insight into the guidelines for chimpanzee tracking and the park official will allocate you an experienced guide. At 8:00am, be ready to begin your adventure through Kibale Forest in search of chimpanzee community.

The morning chimpanzee trek session will run for 2-4 hours and includes an hour of up close and personal with a habituated chimp community. Kibale Forest is a rich habitat and you stand a chance to encounter diversity of primates, birds and flora.

In the afternoon after a leisurely lunch, you will have the best of a guided nature walk through Bigodi Wetland. At Bigodi, expect to come across diversity of primates, birds and floral species plus butterflies.

Day 3: Pick up & travel to Bwindi

Leave Kibale Forest National Park, driving via the scenic Crater Lake dominated area and while enjoying the spectacular Rwenzori Mountains and sweeping plains of Queen Elizabeth NP. Your journey may run for about 6 hours and en-route, expect to take a break at Ishasha for tree climbing lion watching and also enjoy a bush lunch.

From Ishasha, continue up to Bwindi to check in at the lodge at Buhoma area. At leisure, enjoy dinner and have a long evening preparing for your actual gorilla trekking the following day.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking & visit the Batwa pygmies

Catch up with your delicious breakfast early in the morning and after, you will leave the lodge with all essentials for your actual gorilla trek. Briefing about gorilla trekking regulations will begin at 7:00am and this includes allocation of park guides and gorilla families. Each gorilla family will be visited by a maximum of 8 guests per day and one park guide will be accompanying you on long day search for the rare mountain gorillas.

Upon locating gorillas, you have a maximum of 1 hour for up close and personal with gorillas, taking pictures. From here, begin returning to the briefing area to have your gorilla trekking certificate. Late in the afternoon, you will end your day with a cultural experience at the Batwa community.

Day 5: Departure

After a cup of tea or coffee, you will begin driving back to Kampala/Entebbe city. This includes en-route break at the Equator crossing for photography and lunch then proceed to Kampala/Entebbe.
