Detailed itinerary 4 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park-Southwest of Uganda

Have breakfast at the hotel in Kampala and after, leave for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is in the Southwestern districts of Kanungu, Kisoro and Kabale. From Kampala to Bwindi is estimated to be 8-10 hours’ drive and you will drive along Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara-Kabale route which allows you to have a stop visit at Equator crossing and lunch break at Igongo Cultural Centre. After, you will be transferred to Bwindi to check in at your gorilla safari lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking & cultural trip in the Batwa community

After a cup of tea or coffee, be at briefing point in Bwindi where you will meet the park official/ranger. Of the 20 families which have been opened for tourism, only one will be allocated to you to trek and you will be escorted by an armed park guide. Your gorilla trek begins from any of the 4 regions in Bwindi; Rushaga, Nkuringo, Ruhija Uganda and Buhoma area.

The normal search for mountain gorilla family can take 2-6 hours which also includes the 1 hour which is the standard time you will enjoy a close encounter with gorillas. After that, return to relax at the lodge before you go for a thrilling Batwa cultural experience in the afternoon.

Day 3: Bwindi cross to Volcanoes National Park Ruhengeri

Get up for an early morning breakfast and after, your driver guide will pick you up for transfer to Volcanoes National Park. It is a short road trip of 3-4 hours’ drive and you will cross via Katuna/Chanika border. Relax for the rest of the evening or go interact with local residents in Iby’Iwacu cultural village, get to know more about their cultures, traditions and a lot more.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking & Kigali city tour

Rise up for a hefty breakfast and after, have another day of briefing on gorilla trekking dos and don’ts but today, it is at Kinigi. You will have opportunity to trek anyone of the 13 habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda. The entire adventure can take you 2-6 hours and it covers an hour of magical encounter then you walk back to the lodge. Check out after lunch and transfer to Kigali for a quick city tour which covers visits to Kigali genocide centre, nearby local markets. Later, drop off at the hotel/airport late in the afternoon/evening.
