Another Baby Mountain Gorilla Birth in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
It is great news once again in the gorilla habitat as another baby mountain gorilla birth has been recorded in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The new arrival in Bwindi’s lush ‘impenetrable’ forest was sighted in the Kutu gorilla group family on the 21st .10. 2020.
This newborn gorilla marks the second birth for the mother gorilla in the Kutu group. This accounts for 11 gorillas in the Kutu gorilla family group alone currently. This gorilla family is among the 9 gorilla groups within the Rushaga gorilla trekking region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Kutu gorilla group family dwells in the Southern sector of Bwindi. It is one of the best gorilla groups worth exploring on the Uganda gorilla safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Kutu gorilla family is still undergoing habituation, a process of making gorillas get used to human presence. It will be opened for gorilla trekking once it completes the habituation process which lasts for 2 years less or more.
About mountain gorilla habituation experience
Mountain gorilla habituation is conducted on the semi-habituated gorilla group. The participants include mostly scientists, researchers, trackers, conservationists, and others, unlike the usual gorilla treks. Visitors who engage in gorilla habituation have 4 hours of face-to-face interaction with a mountain gorilla,s, unlike the usual gorilla treks.
Gorilla habituation permits
Interested visitors can book gorilla habituation permits at US Dollars 1500 per person. This is applicable to foreign non-residents. For foreign residents, permits are issued at US Dollars 1000 and East African Community citizens pay Uganda shillings 750000. You can take the services of the ground tour operator to book for your gorilla habituation permit and also arrange your safari or book directly with the reservation team at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
Other gorilla groups in the Rushaga region besides Kutu gorilla family
Other gorilla groups in Rushaga region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park include Rwigi, Nshongi, Busingye, Kahungye, Mucunguzi, Bweza, Mishaya and Bikingi. To track anyone of these gorilla families on Uganda gorilla safari requires you to have a valid gorilla permit. Permits for gorilla trekking in Uganda are issued at US Dollars 700 for foreign non-residents, US Dollars 600 for foreign residents, and Ug shs. 250000 in case you are citizen in East African Community.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park alone protects over 459 mountain gorillas and comprises of 21 habituated families. This park lies in Southwestern Uganda about 8-9 hours’ drive when you travel from Kampala and only 3-4 hours’ drive from Kigali Rwanda. This magnificent protected area sits in an area of 331sq.km. It was established in 1991 to shelter the endangered mountain gorillas which make up a total of 1063 in the world today. These thrive only in Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo.
