Africa Wildlife Safaris

Most genuine and registered tour companies arrange Africa Wildlife Safaris. These safaris are conducted within the country (Uganda), to the Republic of Rwanda, Democratic republic of Congo, Kenya and Tanzania.

They do offer adventurous opportunities to view a number of wildlife. Best wildlife safaris are conducted to Uganda’s national parks including Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Lake Mburo, Queen Elizabeth, Mt. Elgon and Semuliki National parks. It is quiet a hard task since there are many other things involved.

In the North west Uganda is Murchison falls national park. It is stands as the largest National park in the Country and it stretches to 3,840 kilometer. It is bisected by the famous Nile River which flows 115 kilometer in the park boundaries empting into Lake Albert and the Albert Nile.

The park supports four (4) big five species including lions, leopards, elephants and Buffaloes. The Rhinos used to exist but faced extinction in 1983 but have been re-introduced, thriving in the neighboring Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary awaiting to be re-introduced in the wild. It also features open savanna vegetation which is intercepted with scattered borassus palms mostly in the Northern section. There are over 76 species of mammals which include water bucks, bohor reedbuck, deffasa water bucks and the Oribis. It is also a home of the patas monkey and supports about 460 species including the Vulnerable and the rare shoe bill.

In Kiruhura district, is Lake Mburo National park. It is a special park where each part of it live a variety of interests and color. It has got sculptured landscape with rolling hills and idyllic lake shores with varied mosaic of habitats.

The most interesting wildlife include zebras, Impalas, Buffaloes, Rothschild giraffes, Topis and eland , leopards, hynas and the jackals that are predators. It also offers 315 species of birds which include the shoe bill stork, papyrus yellow warbler, African fin foot, saddle billed stork, brown chested wattled plover, carruther’s great snipe and the Abyssinian ground hornbill

Another wildlife destination is Queen Elizabeth National park. It features diverse eco-systems which include the shady and humid forests, rolling Savana and Combretum, beautiful lakes with rich wetland that makes the park ideal for the big game. There are over 600 bird species and this makes it the habitat with the greatest bird species count.

The bird species include; Kingfisher, shoe bill stork species, raptors, eagles and the falcons. The other wildlife which can be viewed include, African elephants, Cape Buffalo, lions which include tree climbing lions of Isasha, the spotted hyenas, the African leopard and the stripped olive baboons, the vervet monkeys and many other species.

Kidepo valley has the most exciting fauna and flora. It is neighbored with Karamoja region and also houses many species which are found nowhere else in Uganda; including the greater and lesser kudu, eland and the cheetah. The bird species found in the park include; the rare ostrich and about 475 other bird species. The other wildlife include; elephant, lion , leopard, black-backed and side- striped jackals, Defassa waterbuck, Bohor reedbuck and the Jackson’s hartebeest and the oribi.

The Semuliki National park on the other hand sprawls across the floor of the Semliki Valley on the remote waterside of Rwenzori. It is mostly dominated by the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of Congo Basin; containing numerous features which are associated with central thatched huts. The park has over 441 species of birds including the Nkulengu Rail, yellow- throated Cuckoo, piping Hornbill, Dwarf Hornbill, Black Dwarf Hornbill, White –crested Hornbill, Black- casqued wattled Horn bill, Red- Rumped Tinker bird, African Piculet, White throated Blue swallow and Chestnut-breasted Negrofinch. There are over 53 mammals including 27 large mammals and 11 species are endemic to the park including the pygmy antelope with two flying squirrel species.

Mountain Elgon National park on the other hand supports the tree hyraxes, elephant, buffalo, Defassa, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, duicker, forest hog, bush pig, leopard, civet and serval cats and spotted hyenas. There are over 300 bird species which include 40 restricted range species, 57 of the 87 afro tropical highland biome species live here. Birds include the Jackson’s Francolin and the Black- collared Apalis among others.
In conclusion, a wildlife safari to Uganda is the best adventure one should experience. It offers the best exposure to some of the rare wildlife mammals.
