Budongo Forest is a habitat for not only a diversity of primates but also over 360 bird species, 130 moths, tree species, butterflies, etc. The birds of interest on birding expedition in Budongo include yellow-footed flycatchers, paradise flycatchers, Chocolate backed kingfishers, black kite, fork-tailed drongo, African pied wagtail, olive breasted greenbul, Ituri batis, Chestnut-capped kingfishers, White-spotted flufftail, Grey-headed sunbird, Cassin’s spinetail, Brown twin spot, Blue-breasted kingfishers, etc.
Budongo Forest is 825sq.km, previously renowned for its abundant mahogany trees in East Africa. This host over 800 chimpanzees, baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and more. It should be noted that Budongo Forest is an all-year-round destination, but the best time to visit it is around May and November for birding tours, June to September/December to February for chimpanzee trekking.

Detailed Itinerary – 3 Days Budongo Birding Tour
Day 1: Budongo Forest
Travel from Kampala to Budongo Forest and you will take the Gulu highway, Northwestern Uganda. En-route stopover visits will include Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to explore more about rhinos, plus birds and other mammal species. After, proceed to have lunch at Masindi town, one of the nearest towns to Budongo Central Forest. The driving time from Kampala to Budongo is estimated to take at least 5 hours.

Day 2: Birding in Royal Mille -Budongo Forest
Your birding tour in Budongo Forest starts early after breakfast and you will meet the site guide fa or briefing. Leave your accommodation with packed lunch, and you will have the entire day looking for different birds in Royal Mille, one of the best sites rich with bird species.
The expected birds to see include the African pygmy, brown eared woodpeckers, chestnut capped, grey long bill, yellowfooted flycatchers, African crowned eagle, western blackheaded oriel, chestnut wattle-eye, yellow billed barbet, hairy breasted, African dwarf, Cassin’s spinetail and many more.
