Detailed Itinerary 6 Days Nyungwe & Akagera National Park Safari

Day 1: Visit Akagera National Park in the Eastern Rwanda

Pick up & transfer from the airport or hotel & spend only 2.5 hours driving to the Eastern side of Rwanda. Arrive early, and you will be having plenty of time relaxing at the safari lodge.

Day 2: Full day enjoying game drive, launch cruise

A complete morning game drive in Akagera 2-3 hours comes with exciting animal sightings of big game & small mammals. The expected animals to see: elands, topis, lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, duikers, impalas, zebras, sitatungas, roan antelopes, Maasai giraffes, and birds.

The 2-3 hrs launch cruise will be done on Lake Ihema with an experienced guide. The aquatic lives for you to target include hippos, crocodiles and birds (such as African fish eagles, marabou storks, shoebills, herons).

Day 3: Akagera to Nyungwe –(Southern Rwanda)

Pick up & drive from your lodge to Nyungwe National Park via Kigali capital. As you leave Akagera National Park, a long list of savanna species will be spotted. Lunch en-route to Nyungwe will be enjoyed at leisure in Huye/Butare after visiting the Kings palace. Finally, continue to your accommodation facility and have enough rest.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking plus canopy walk in Nyungwe

Nyungwe Forest chimpanzee tracking with a guide: Wake up early and report at Uwinka for briefing and the park official will allocate guides to take different groups through the forest to see chimpanzees, learn about their daily behaviors, and taking photos. Aside from chimpanzee encounters, expected sightings include primates like red-tailed monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, etc.

Canopy walk with an experienced guide: Explore Nyungwe on a canopy walk taking 2 hours as you walk through a suspended walkway. Get the best of park’s scenic beauty, the tree canopy view and primate sightings.

Day 5: Community tour & Kigali

Early in the morning, enjoy breakfast and later, embark on a cultural/community visit. When you return, get a pack of lunch and drive back to the hotel in Kigali- Blue Hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 6: Kigali city tour & Departure

Start the morning with breakfast and it will be followed by Kigali city tour. The Kigali city tour leads you to sites such as Kigali genocide memorial site, visit the Kimironko market, Nyamirambo Women’s Center and others. This will be followed by lunch and airport transfer to Kigali airport for departure.
